cranberry and pecan friday
friday: having a huge stock on cranberries in the freezer, i decided to try another cranberry tart. this time i tried a cranberry pecan tart. for this tart, i borrowed tomoko's food processor. it worked like magic. it made all the mixing and dough making very easy. i like it and am hooked. i also purchased an actual tart pan. one that has a removable bottom, making removal easy as pie.

apple thursday
thursday: again, sticking with the theme of using what we have in our fridge...i went with an apple tart! i tried to jazz it up a little bit, by adding a couple cranberries (which we have stocked in the freezer) and some almond flakes (from the pear tart). it looks pretty, and taste even better. it's at it's best though, warmed with some vanilla ice cream. (looking at the picture...i really need to work on my crust)
[there's only one slice left at the end of the day. i think that says everything. next time i make this tart, i definitely have to work harder on the crust]
what will friday bring?

persimmon wednesday
wednesday: not wanting to spend money, i decided to use the fruits that we had in our fridge...leading to my first persimmon fruit tart. also, it helped me learn how to spell persimmon. the persimmons were courtesy of my mum's friends tree. homegrown and delicious!
[surprisingly good. i was initially a little hesitant to try it, mum took the first bit, but it turned out very well. if you have persimmons laying around, bake them!]

tuesday: i wanted to make this flaky blood orange tart (niki's suggestion). alas, no blood oranges. they're essential to the tart. so instead i took the easy route...pilsbury grand biscuits. (hey, i still had to bake them)
[i know i took the pre-made way out, but the biscuits...yum. they were even better the next morning with eggs.]
pear mondays
monday: i was inspired to bake this tart because of a couple things:
A- my mum LOVES pear tarts, so if it didn't turn out too well. i know she was game to eat it.
B- pear and raisin almond tart, came up in my greader. it looked to good to pass up.
C- we had pears in the fridge that i probably wasn't going to eat, so i thought...let's bake!
[this pear tart...SOOO GOOD. i definitely recommend trying to make it. took a bit of work, having to poach the pears and all. in the end though, totally worth it. my family just ate it up]

week of baking!
lately, i've been a baking mood. so i think i'm going to try a week of baking.
sunday: cranberry and white chocolate tart. my standard cranberry tart, courtesy of my days watching martha stewart living.
[my fall back autumn tart. it's yum. though, i think that put too many cranberries in it, hence the white chocolate.]

circus a la pain
i'd like to think i'm game for most things. so when niki asked if i wanted to try a beginners aerial class at this circus gym, i thought, why not.
i fully intended on falling on my ass, and laughing about it. instead i learned that i can't really climb rope, let alone fabric. the one point where i did think i was progressing up a rope...turned out because the instructor was helping push up my feet. failed soo badly.
overall the class was fun. very different. all the other students/teachers assured us that the classes get better and that we shouldn't be discouraged by our lack of ability in the first class. i really thought for a bit...maybe...
til this morning.
convo with niki:
m: dude
m: getting up
m: from laying down
m: is a bit of a challenge
n: myra
n: answering the phone
n: is a challenge
like the instructor said in the beginning while i was 'stretching' (really i was just laying on the ground, til he changed my position and sat on me to deepen the stretch)
"Welcome to pain."
